I have always loved to cook. As a child, I saw my dad, uncles, and grandfathers throwing down on the grill and that love for grilled foods was passed down to me. As a young man, I attended college in Nashville, Tennessee, and lived there for about 12 years, during which my passion for cooking expanded through my exposure to southern cooking and hospitality. Later in life, when I discovered the world of competition BBQ, I learned the difference between grilling and smoking meat. I have since been blessed to be able to compete on some big stages and learn from some incredibly talented and skilled pitmasters. Along with competing, my love for smoked food led me to start a food truck in my hometown. While competing and running the food truck, I found a relationship with God.
As my relationship with God developed, He taught me how to love and eventually led me to give back to the community. I started cooking for a local ministry, helping feed homeless and low-income people in our city.
Over time, I began taking on other serving opportunities for additional local ministries serving the same community. Eventually, I realized that the skills I had been using and experience gained from competitions and the food truck could bring value to those around me, help improve lives, and point others to God’s love.
